More about Family Renewed Founder and CEO – Dr. Dawn M. Porter

As an advocate for children, adolescents, adults and families, Dr. Dawn M. Porter conducts presentations and leads interactive workshops locally, nationally, and internationally to address relevant issues such as domestic violence, trauma, healthy living, emotional health, issues and concerns regarding medications and varied topics dealing with cultural issues in psychiatry.

An accomplished inspirational speaker, Dr. Porter has spoken on a broad range of topics from parenting concerns, relationship issues, balancing work and home and understanding the impact of mental illness.   She was honored to serve as one of two guest speakers for the Centennial Celebration and Commencement Ceremony of Sumner Academy of Arts and Science, her alma mater in Kansas City, Kansas, she was a panelist on a CNN feature on anxiety and more recently she has Dr. Porter’s knowledge, expertise and relatable style make her a popular speaker for a diversity of audiences.

Beyond the scope of her degree, Dr. Porter draws on her personal experiences from successfully navigating a blended military family, to fuel her passion to strengthen all families.  As the Founder and CEO of Family Renewed, LLC, Dr. Porter’s vision is to one day see a mentally, physically and spiritually healthy nation that is rooted in the basic concepts of compassion and healing.  Through Family Renewed, LLC, Dr. Porter provides inspirational materials, workshops, seminars and retreats for families, churches, schools and organizations, with specialty retreats designed for military and blended families.  She has developed an innovative, interactive program to strengthen the core family structure, refocus individual and family beliefs and improve the overall mental and physical health of all participants.

Dr. Dawn’s Education and Training

A graduate of Sumner Academy of Arts and Science, Dr. Porter received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in California and her Medical Degree from Meharry Medical College in Tennessee.  She began her training in Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and completed it at the University of Illinois, at Chicago where she also completed her subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  Dr. Porter has worked in inpatient, outpatient and consultative settings and has held such titles as Director of Outpatient Alternative Services, Medical Director of the Child and Adolescent Inpatient unit and Director of Outpatient Children’s Services.  Dr. Porter has also worked in Emergency Psychiatric Services.  Prior to moving to the St. Louis Metropolitan area, Dr. Porter worked as a civilian contractor to the government where she provided face-to-face and tele-psychiatric services to military families including those on installations with little or no access to psychiatric care. Dr. Porter is currently in private practice in the St. Louis, MetroEast Metropolitan area.
